Another New York Times staff member was caught on video trashing the Trump administration.
The right-leaning Project Veritas website, under the leadership of conservative activist James O’Keefe, released another undercover video on Tuesday that appears to show a Times “homepage editor” criticizing Vice President Mike Pence and admitting to difficulty in the media’s attempts to cover the White House without bias.
“If you impeach him, then Pence becomes the president,” the video shows Desiree Shoe, identified as a “senior” editor for the Times homepage, saying. “Mike Pence, who’s fucking horrible.”
Shoe’s LinkedIn account also identifies her as “senior staff editor, homepage at the New York Times.”
Shoe is seen in another part of the video talking about the media’s coverage of President Trump, though she repeatedly says she is speaking “off the record.”
“It’s hard to portray, for instance, the president in an unbiased light when the words that are coming out of his mouth are unapologetic towards white supremacists,” she says.
Shoe also says that Trump received outsize coverage during the campaign because he provided “sensational” stories and that “I think one of the things that maybe journalists were thinking about is like, Oh, if we write about him, about how insanely crazy he is and how ludicrous his policies are, then maybe people will read it and be like, oh, wow, we shouldn’t vote for him.”
