Here we are again. Another mass shooting. Another tragedy where within hours of the attack the topic of debate swirls around gun control among the mainstream media. 59 people were murdered. 59 people lost their lives to a tragedy that easily could’ve been prevented if we just had stricter gun laws. Obviously. Right? Not so much.
You see, now for the next few months we’re going to see almost every left leaning political pundit and celebrity talking head yap about how assault rifles need to be banned and/or tighter gun laws need to be imposed because if not, these senseless acts of violence are going to continue.
The problem here is the fallacy of the argument itself surrounding assault rifles. If the left is so gung-ho about saving lives, shouldn’t their argument be to ban all guns, including hand guns, and not just assault rifles? According to the Department of Justice, firearm homicides have hovered around 11,000 since 2001, or about 3.5 in every 100,000 people. Assault rifles make up less than 2% of those deaths. So, why are we banning assault rifles and not all guns? Maybe it’s because they’ll never admit what they really want is a blanket ban across all guns? We’ll get to that.
The continuing focus on assault weapons stems from the media’s obsessive focus on mass shootings, which disproportionately involve weapons like the AR-15, a civilian version of the military M16 rifle. This, in turn, obscures some grim truths about who is really dying from gunshots.
Annually, 5,000 to 6,000 black men are murdered with guns. Black men amount to only 6 percent of the population. Yet of the 30 Americans on average shot to death each day, half are black males.
In Chicago last month, yes this past September 2017, there were 57 shooting deaths ruled homicides. 57. And that’s DOWN 15% from the previous year. And this is in a city where guns, even handguns, are BANNED.
From this, what we know for sure is that if 57 people are murdered over the course of a few consecutive weeks it’s definitely not ‘mass murder’ and it’s definitely not going to get any attention from the left-stream media. Nope.
So, you see, Black Lives, in fact, Don’t Matter. At least not to the left. Because if this truly was a legitimate cause Chicago would be a daily topic of discussion, but it’s not. BLM is only relevant to the left when a white cop kills a person of color, regardless if it was justified (Bonus points if he’s unarmed and there’s a video. Cha-ching. Hello, online advertising dollars!!). BLM is a trendy, hot, controversial movement that appeals to a younger audience that the left only utilizes for political gain.
All of the media surrounding these mass shootings prove that the left has no real convictions, definitely no moral convictions, and uses the fake guise of social injustice to create an even further divide among the country.
So, what now? Well now it’s time to sit back and enjoy the show. Watch as the media whines day in and day out about assault rifles, as barely talented celebrities make political statements and share touching tweets; tweets that tug at the heart strings so hard you can almost feel their tears hitting the keyboard as they type them. Watch as bill after bill attempts to get passed to whittle away at your 2nd Amendment Right.
Oh, and by the way, the 2nd Amendment was not put in place for hunting. The root of it doesn’t even lie in self-defense of your person. The 2nd Amendment was written right after we fought and won a war with a tyrannical government. The 2nd Amendment was put in place to protect yourself and your loved ones against any form of tyranny that can arise when a government becomes too big. They literally saw this happen and decided it was important enough to list 2nd in our God-given rights. Does this mean that a family having an assault rifle is going to stop a tyrannical army from taking over? No. But it’s meant to give you and everyone else a fighting chance instead of being like lambs led to a slaughter. What’s the first thing America did in Libya when the Libyan rebels were fighting back against Gaddafi and their own tyrannical government? We supplied them, the rebels, the everyday common people with military style weapons so they could have at least have a chance!
But I digress… for now.
